ifi GO blu

My serious headphone amp died (I thought my ears would go first to be honest) so I decided to replace it with something a lot more portable. I was a bit skeptical that I’d get the kind of power I wanted out of such a small package but iFi must of used some kind of witchcraft on the tiny GO blu because it sounds like a serious piece of gear. Is it as rich as a wall powered tube setup? No, but it is surprisingly close and can deliver more power than most people can tolerate. The portability is worth the negligible trade-off.

The Slaves, one of my favorite bands ever, seemed to be derailed by the pandemic and some personal tragedies but they have resurfaced as Soft Play and that makes me really, really happy.

Translation: I’m listening to Nafla’s “Apple Box”. The beat is good. Nafla is Korean-American. I like Nafla’s West Coast and old school style.

Put on your good headphones. This modular synth jam from LudoWic is just perfect. It’s simple but the sounds and slow build are so satisfying. ๐ŸŽต

Man playing a modular synth

The bass coming out of these Behringer Craves is so good. This track is “On the Run” by the AUXOUT. ๐ŸŽต

This video of real-time song creation on a Teenage Engineering OP-1 has over ten million views. That’s pretty crazy for a video in the relatively small synth community - but the sample (from the movie Tropic Thunder) and the final song are so good. ๐ŸŽต

This performance on the Elektron Digitakt by Red Means Recording may look simple but it’s way more challenging to perform something like this live on a single device than you would think. ๐ŸŽต

This is pretty amazing arrangement for something Aldo calls “Random Jam #8.” ๐ŸŽต

There’s a lot going on in ร…ngstrรถm by Red Means Recording. It’s packed with a ton of smooth transitions that make me wish he had streched it out 5-6x longer than the 7 minute running time. ๐ŸŽต

I love my AirPod Pros but this mix of jazz, funk, and drum breaks from 1970s Japan makes me wish that I still had a tube amp and a set of vintage loudspeakers. ๐ŸŽต

I love the mix of analog and digital gear. A solid mix “of mostly downtempo / lounge-style, with some hip-hop sprinkled throughout.” That stand though… ๐ŸŽต

Macroblank is a prolific ๐ŸŽต curator with impeccable taste. The album artwork is always as good as the mix. Kind of a mysterious character though. This one is excellent.
